The right information at the right time

Volunteer advocates and staff from Dorset Macmillan Advocacy took part in a mapping workshop as part of the Macmillan Patient Information Project in Dorset.  Having the right information at the right time can have a positive impact on patient experience and outcomes.  Macmillan Cancer Support wants to ensure that everyone affected by cancer can access local, high-quality, face to face cancer information and support services.  This project is in partnership with Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and aims to improve information services across the whole of Dorset.

Project lead, Jane Simkin, and her colleague Sam Taylor, project Navigator, are finding out what information is currently available; where, when and how information is given by service providers; where, when and how patients want information; in what format information is available; and how the availability, access and appropriateness of information can be improved.  They are talking to people affected by cancer about their experience, through events and questionnaires, to ensure the recommendations are truly patient-focused.

At Dorset Macmillan Advocacy we are excited about the project and the prospective improvement to information provision across the county.  We feel sure it will help our volunteers and their advocacy partners, as well as everyone affected by cancer, to find the right information more easily.
