19 May Supporting volunteers at Dorset Macmillan Advocacy
Recently staff from Dorset Macmillan Advocacy met with Mel Merrill the Macmillan Volunteer Quality Standards Project Manager for South West and Central England to discuss how Macmillan Cancer Support can support us to support our volunteers.
Macmillan believe that, ‘ongoing training and development ensures volunteers are well equipped for their roles’ and have a commitment to standardise the volunteer experience for all their volunteers, especially those involved with partner organisations. They offer a wealth of resources to train and support volunteers and to offer them opportunities for personal development.
Naturally these resources will add another layer to what Dorset Macmillan Advocacy can offer their volunteers and the wide range available means there is something that will suit everyone from online self-directed learning through the Macmillan Learn Zone portal to the first scheduled National Volunteer Conference due to take place in 2015.
Jenny Rimmer, Senior Macmillan Advocate based at Dorset Advocacy, said ‘Volunteers are at the heart of our service and offering them stimulating and rewarding training and support allows them to appreciate their value to us’.
